Planning Ahead and January Bulletins

I’m sure many of you are planning ahead for January, so I have the January Bulletins ready early! Here’s a link to the English version and here’s the Spanish version. (If you’re just limping toward Christmas and haven’t even thought about thinking ahead, don’t worry about it.)

As you’re planning ahead–remember that we’ll need to re-teach EVERYTHING from this semester in that first week of January. Here are a few resources that will help make it easier (and more fun).

  • ACTS Prayer Worksheets & Speed Sort: This is a big lesson with worksheets, activities, and projects. My favorite part of this lesson is 2 sets of sorting cards. One set is simple and can be used to quickly assess students’ understanding. The other set has bible verses connecting to the ACTS Prayer so it encourages debate and conversation about the types of prayer. I use the simple set at the beginning of the year, then the set with bible verses when we review & reteach in January.

  • Nicene Creed Sorting Cards: I love this activity. Students match the meaning of the Nicene Creed to bible verses that explain or expand on that line of the Creed. Students also look up each bible verse and match the citation to the verse. It’s a difficult activity that brings great discussion and increased understanding of the creed. There’s also some nice practice looking up bible verses. I usually use this activity with small groups. Based on the abilities and needs of different groups, I may or may not have them match the bible verses with the citations to increase/decrease difficulty. Another way to decrease difficulty is to print pages on different colors so the students also have visual cues to help with the sort.
  • Saint Skits: These are an easy activity to help students have fun and ease back into school. If you want more ideas about skits, check out this post.

January Catholic Kids Bulletin

If you’re not already an email subscriber to Catholic Kids Bulletins…enter your email on the left. Then, you’ll be the first to know when new bulletins for ready.

The FREE Printable Catholic Kids Bulletin worksheets match up to the weekly Mass readings in the Catholic Church. There are coloring pages that match the weekly Gospel reading. There are Mass activities throughout the month, as well as Psalm copy work and a word search. In addition, the order of the liturgy of the Mass along the top of each bulletin also helps kids follow along during Mass. Next, they can learn the order and structure of the Mass. Finally, a coloring page about a Catholic Saint teaches about Catholic History and saints. For example, these are terrific to teach at Mass, in addition to a pre-teaching activity to help prepare your students for the Sunday Mass.
