Help Kids Learn at Mass with Weekly Bulletins

Can Kids Learn at Mass?

Each week we take our kids to Mass (or watch Mass on TV…quarentine) and hope they learn something positive. But, there are days that I think they only learn how to sit still and stare into space for an hour, or how to creatively turn the pen cap that they found on the floor into a rocket. While both of these are beneficial??? skills, I want them to learn about God at Catholic Mass. That’s why I created Catholic Kids Bulletins and I hope they help your kids to learn at Mass!

Using Catholic Kids Bulletins

The weekly Catholic Kids Bulletins will always be available at least a week before the month when they are needed….usually earlier. You can download them from my Teachers Pay Teachers store. I’ll email you when they are ready if you subscribe on the left.

I’m sure teachers are familiar with TPT–but for parents: to download from TPT, you’ll need to make a free account, then you can download my bulletins and a TON of other ideas to teach your kids about God (and everything else).

I use these bulletins as an intro activity each week at Faith Formation (CCD, Religious Ed, etc.). I also print them for my kids to draw/color/learn during Sunday Mass. They are designed to print front/back and fold in half as a small booklet.

What Kids Will Learn About Mass

Heading Catholic Kids Bulletin

The heading includes the date of the Sunday Mass, the liturgical season, and the liturgical color for Mass. Kids can start to understand the liturgical cycle so they will notice some of the hints that the Church gives us to help understand the Church seasons.

Psalm Handwriting & Word Search

The Psalm for the week is on the front page with dotted text to encourage kids to trace the words. They are practicing handwriting and thinking about God’s Word!

The random letters around the Psalm are a quick word find. The words of the Psalm are in order around the box–starting at the top. This will help your kids learn the Psalm so they are ready to participate in the Responsorial Psalm.

FYI–the words of the Psalm can have variations depending on the music, so if your musicians use a different version, the meaning will be the same, but the words may be different.

Information About Mass

Tips-about-Mass-Catholic-Kids-Bulletin

The bottom of the front page teaches a tip about the Mass so your kids can look for a specific moment. Sometimes the lesson is connected to the Psalm, Saint, or Gospel message. During some months, there is a series of lessons about a certain topic such as Advent or Lent.

Saint of the Week

My favorite part of the weekly Mass page is the Saint-of-the-Week. Each worksheet highlights a saint who has a feast day during that month, so there is a picture to color and a short description of the saint.

In the June bulletins, your kids will learn about four different saints.

  • Saint Juliana Falconieri & a Eucharistic miracle
  • Saint Anthony & a hidden picture search
  • Saint Aloysius Gonzaga & his dedication to learning about his faith
  • Saint Charles Lwanga & his martyrdom

Since I only include a short description of each saint, I often keep the details very vague. For example, I write about Charles Lwanga’s martyrdom and include a picture of the flames since he was burned to death. However, I don’t include any details so you can choose to share as much or as little information about some of the scarier stories of the saints.

Gospel Activity Page

Gospel Activity and Coloring Page to Help Kids Learn at Mass

The inside of the bulletin is a coloring and activity page about the Sunday Gospel. I vary the activities throughout the month so your kids will be able to find something that they enjoy to help them learn about the Gospel.

My kids love mazes and dot-to-dots so I include those a lot. Let me know if your kids have a favorite and I can try to include it.

My son’s favorite part of the bulletin is the top of this page because the images give hints for the order of the Mass to help kids learn about the flow of Mass. It also helps my kids stay calm and focused because they can see what is happening next (and how much is left).

Let me know if you have any questions about any parts of the bulletin.

I hope it’s helping start great discussions to help your kids learn at Mass!
