Summer Religion Activities: Keep Faith In Your Summer Plans
Summer is the perfect time to soak up the sun and grow in faith with some summer religion activities! With school out, there’s more space in the day to slow down, get creative, and help kids connect with God in meaningful (and fun!) ways. Whether you’re at home, traveling, or hanging out at church, here are 9 simple ideas to bring faith into your summer routine.
1. Go to Mass
I love to visit new churches when we’re out of town. It’s a great lesson for your kids to see that the Mass is the SAME even when you’re in a different building.
You could even try Daily Mass or Adoration (with a treat!) Pick one morning a week to go to Daily Mass or Eucharistic Adoration. Add a fun tradition—go out for donuts or bring a picnic to enjoy afterward. It turns worship into something special to look forward to!
2. Start a Faith Journal with a Bible Notebook
Journaling is a great way for kids to reflect on their relationship with God. Give them a Bible Study Notebook or Journal to use over the summer! If you want to give them a format to help get started, try this SOAP journal! It follows the SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) and helps them dive into the Sunday Mass readings.
✨ Choose from a 9-week structured version or a relaxed journal format
🖍️ Includes coloring covers, reflection questions, and a Holy Land map
👍 Awesome for middle and high schoolers, or any kid who likes to write or draw
Grab the printable version and let this journal become their go-to faith tool all summer long!
3. Have a Movie & Faith Night as a Summer Religion Activity
Rainy day or it’s a million degrees outside? Movie time! Here are some of my favorite faith-based movies. When I put on a religious movie, my kids will ask…is this movie actually GOOD or just religious? These are actually good…
- 🎬Dolphin Tale
- 🎬 The Shack
- 🎬 Letters to God
- 🎬 The Chosen
- 🎬 Saint John Bosco: Mission to Love If you want to make this more educational, here’s a lesson to go with it!
- 🎬Miracles from Heaven
- 🎬The Miracle Season
- 🎬Superbook (My younger kids love this…my older kids cringe.)
- 🎬Heart of a Servant: The Father Flanagan Story (This one is more educational than entertaining, but it’s great information about someone on the path to canonization.) These coloring pages are a great addition to the movie!
If you’d rather wind down with books instead of movies, check out this post with some book recs.
4. Learn About Saints – One Week at a Time
Pick a different saint each week and explore their story! Read about their life, color a picture, and chat about what made them holy. Saints are amazing examples of real people who followed God in big and small ways.

5. Put on a Saint Skit
Got a few friends or siblings around? Act out a saint’s story using one of our fun skits! The Saint Skit Bundle has ready-to-go scripts that make learning about saints super interactive.
🎭 Each skit includes simple scripts and name tags to make it easy to perform.
🕊️ Try starting with Saint Anthony—his story is full of courage, miracles, and wisdom!
Perfect for backyard plays, homeschool days, or parish events! Here’s a link to more information about the skits.
6. Take on a Kindness Challenge as a Summer Religion Activities
Make a simple kindness calendar with ideas for the summer, like:
❤️ Write a thank-you note to your priest
🌳 Pick up litter at the park: We pick up trash while walking to the grocery store, then all the kids get to pick out candy to enjoy on the walk home.
🍪 Bake cookies for a neighbor
🧸 Donate toys or clothes
Let each act be a way to show God’s love in everyday life.
7. Make Prayer Bracelets or Rosaries
Use colorful beads to make bracelets or simple rosaries. I love to get these cross necklaces and have the kids make them into good-deed beads or decade rosaries. It’s easy enough that even preschoolers can put it together!
Here’s a tutorial from my kindergartener with no prompting or script. Just adorable crafting.
8. Go on a Nature Walk with a Faith Twist
Take a walk in the backyard, a park, or a nature trail. God’s glory is evident on nature, take time to enjoy it.
If you want to be extra, bring Psalm 104 or Genesis 1 and read it outside. Talk about how everything in creation reflects God’s love. Encourage kids to name things they see that feel like gifts from God.
🌿 A simple way to combine fresh air and faith!
9. Wind Down the Day with Family Devotions
Find a time each day for a few minutes of prayer as a family. I try to ‘pray over our day’ with the kids on the first car ride of the day. That’s the first time everyone is still and stuck in place. Dinner is also a great time to light a candle, read a short Bible verse, and let everyone name one blessing from the day. It’s a small habit that makes a big difference in building faith and gratitude.
