Snakes, Saints, and Sassy Faces: Saint Paul Activities You’ll Love
January 25th is the feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle. My daughter learned about him last week—and honestly, I picked up a few things too. When I saw online that good Saint Paul activities included snakes, I was completely confused.
I told my brother Paul that I clearly haven’t been reading my Bible enough. Now I know how a snake was connected to Saint Paul.

A Quick Saint Paul Bible Refresher (Thanks, Paul!)
Luckily, my brother Paul—named after the apostle—jumped right in. He reminded me that after a shipwreck stranded Saint Paul on an island, a poisonous snake bit him. He calmly pulled the snake off his arm and tossed it aside, totally unfazed. The islanders believed he had godlike powers, which helped them be open to hearing the Gospel. So, thanks to both Saint Paul and Brother Paul for the biblical insight!
(Also, Mom, I guess those saint books you gave him as a kid paid off after all.)
Acting Out Saint Paul Activities at Home
To help my daughter connect with the story, we acted out Saint Paul’s conversion. She loved playing the part of Paul—especially because she got to ride around pretending to be mean to everyone until I (playing God) knocked her off her imaginary horse and converted her. That worked for a while… until she refused to be converted and just made dramatic angry faces at everything in the living room.
We also tried one of the snake-themed Saint Paul activities and made a fabric snake to reenact the Malta story. I asked her to help me braid the snake with three strips of cloth, but she wasn’t interested in the crafting part—just the playing part. So I made the snake, and she acted out the drama. Teamwork?
