Last Chance! Holy Week Activities for Kids: Are You Ready?
Holy Week Activities for Kids: Last-Minute Lesson Plans & Reading Comprehension
It happens every single year.
I pull into the school parking lot, with my Diet Mountain Dew, mentally reviewing my perfectly planned Tuesday. We’re in the middle of a unit on prayer, the kids are engaged, and my to-do list is actually under control.
Then, I remember that it’s HOLY WEEK and I should have been planning ahead.
Suddenly, my “perfectly planned” Tuesday feels irrelevant. I realize—at the absolute last second—that I can’t just breeze past the most important week of the year to finish the current unit. I need to pause. I need to teach the Passion.
But then the scramble begins. I’m sitting at my desk five minutes before the bell rings, frantically searching for Catholic Lent activities or a Palm Sunday lesson plan that actually grabs them. I want Holy Week activities for kids that are high-interest but also teach deep information.
If you’re already in that “parking lot panic” mode: Deep breath. I’ve got you.
Holy Week Lesson Ideas
If you have five minutes to prep, these are the some things that are so easy to throw into your plans:
- Stations of the Cross Reading Comprehension: My Stations of the Cross History & Reading Comp is the #1 resource in my store for a reason. It discusses the History of the Stations and St. Alphonsus Liguori and keeps kids engaged. If you haven’t taught the Stations yet, now is the time!
- Annunciation Reading Comprehension: If you missed the Annunciation this week; it’s not to late to add a quick lesson about the Solemnity.
- Palm Sunday Reading Comprehension: If you forgot to preteach for weird Mass this weekend, you can use this to answer all the kids’ questions when they come back on Monday!
- The Holy Week Escape Room: If you’re worried about “boring” Lent activities, this Escape Room is the answer. It covers Holy Week through puzzles and vocabulary. It’s the ultimate “I need a high-engagement lesson NOW” activity.
Last Chance to Prep for Holy Week
Don’t be the teacher (like me!) who is frantically searching for last-minute Holy Week activities while the kids are walking through the door. Grab these “print-and-go” lessons today so you can actually focus on the beauty of the Liturgy this week instead of the stress of the prep.
