Teach about Saint Kateri with July Mass Bulletins

Teach with a Skit About Saint Kateri

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha’s feast day is July 14th, so this is a great time to teach about Saint Kateri. She is included as a Saint-of-the-Week in the July Catholic Kids Bulletins (see below to download, but if you want to teach more about her story, I suggest putting on a play with your kids and students!

I love using skits (such as this one about Saint Kateri) to teach students about the Catholic Saints. They are more likely to remember the story if they get to be involved in the telling.

The Saint Kateri skit has 12 characters–including 3 narrators and a prayer leader (who only has one line). So, the parts could easily be condensed if you’re working with a smaller group of kids.

When I teach this during class, I ask students to volunteer for parts–but before they volunteer, I hint about the length of their reading. The narrators and main characters will have the largest roles. Other roles, such as Father Pierron and Tagaskouita have fewer lines but are still needed to tell the story…no small actors and all that.

The skit begins by telling the story of Saint Kateri’s mother and her conversion. Then, the story follows Kateri as she is challenged in living out her faith.

The Catholic Kids Bulletin worksheets match up to the weekly Mass readings in the Catholic Church. There are coloring pages that match the weekly Gospel reading. There are activities throughout the month, along with Psalm copy work and a word search. The liturgy of the Mass is outlined along the top of each bulletin so kids can follow along during Mass and learn the order and structure of the Mass. Each week, a Catholic Saint is also highlighted, this month it includes Saint Kateri and Saint Junipero Serra! These are terrific to be used at Mass, or as a pre-teaching activity to help prepare your students for the Sunday Mass.
